State guide
New York glamping is two different vacations wearing one state's name. Downstate, within two hours of Manhattan, the Catskills and Hudson Valley have become the country's laboratory for design-forward outdoor stays: vintage Airstreams parked under old-growth canopy, tiny cabins perched on ridge lines like treehouses, geodesic domes with clear ceilings aimed at the stars, and farm stays where the glamping tent comes with a sauna, a cold plunge, and an art gallery. This is glamping as the city does weekends — bookable months out, gone by Friday.
The Catskills earn their reputation honestly. The same mountains that invented the American resort vacation in the 1800s now host its strangest, prettiest descendants: a former summer camp turned campground with treehouses and Airstreams outside Catskill, a design hotel built from cabins and canvas in Windham, a full AutoCamp Airstream village in Saugerties, and a brickworks on the Hudson River in Kingston turned into riverside cabins. Weekday nights and shoulder seasons are the move — summer weekends sell out the way they always have here.
The Hudson Valley plays quieter and weirder. A 100-acre ridge-top retreat in Coxsackie with seventeen tiny cabins and a shale swimming pond, a farm stay in Germantown where eight orchard accommodations share an art gallery and a Moroccan-tiled bathhouse, a 300-acre former dairy farm in Accord where cabins and tents scatter across meadows and forest. It's farm-to-table country applied to sleeping outside: pick-your-own gardens, on-site kitchens, and hosts who treat a weekend like a residency.
Upstate is a different animal entirely — and bigger than most states realize. The Adirondack Park is six million acres of constitutionally protected forever-wild forest, larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and the Great Smokies combined. Glamping here leans into the Great Camp tradition: safari tents on working farms in Johnsburg, yurts on a Granville farm under the Green Mountains' shadow, a French-Canadian canvas-tent village on the edge of Lake Luzerne, and an 1886 Great Camp on Lake Clear with lantern-lit sleigh rides. The Finger Lakes add gorge-country drama — Firelight Camps' safari tents sit five minutes from Buttermilk Falls — and western New York closes the loop with tiny-cabin villages at the base of ski country in Ellicottville.
