Private campsites & glamping in Boulder, CO

Boulder is where the Great Plains slam into the Rockies - the Flatirons rise straight from the city's western edge, and 300 days of sunshine a year keep the trails packed. It's a university town with a serious outdoor habit: climbing, trail running, and cycling are practically civic duties, and the craft beer and food scenes punch far above the city's weight.

Use Boulder as your Front Range basecamp: Rocky Mountain National Park is 45 minutes northwest, Eldora ski area 30 minutes west, and Denver 30 minutes southeast. Lodging ranges from downtown hotels to canyon cabins. Summer weekends and CU football Saturdays book out - plan ahead.

Camping in Boulder: FAQs

What's the best easy hike near Boulder?

The Chautauqua Trailhead's Flatirons loops - the 1st/2nd Flatiron Trail is the classic, about 2.5 miles round trip with big payoff. Go early; the lot fills by 9am on weekends.

Is Boulder good for non-hikers?

Yes - Pearl Street's pedestrian mall, the farmers market, Celestial Seasonings tours, and a deep bench of breweries and restaurants.

How far is Rocky Mountain National Park?

About 45-60 minutes to the Beaver Meadows entrance via Lyons. You'll need a timed-entry permit in season.

When is the best weather?

April-October is prime. Spring is fickle (snow in May happens); September-October is arguably perfect - warm days, cool nights, golden light.

Do I need a car?

For the city itself, no - the bus and bike paths are excellent. For trailheads, Eldora, and RMNP, yes.
